Empower Your Healing Journey
At Awake Awareness, we believe trauma is not a sign of brokenness, but a natural response to overwhelming experiences. We deliver compassionate, body-based approaches to healing and education that empower people to transform their responses and reclaim their stories at their own paces.
About Our CIC
What is a CIC?
A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a special type of non-profit organisation designed to serve the community and create lasting social impact. Unlike a traditional business, a CIC is not driven by personal profit. Instead, it reinvests any surplus income back into the services it provides, supporting those who need it most.
At Awake Awareness CIC, our mission is to make trauma-informed support, education, and therapeutic services accessible to individuals, families, and professionals across our community. As a registered CIC, we are committed to creating real change — breaking down barriers to mental health support, offering compassionate care, and empowering people with knowledge and tools for healing.
Being a CIC means we are transparent, ethical, and entirely focused on serving the wellbeing of our community. It also allows us to apply for funding, collaborate with councils, schools, and charities, and deliver meaningful programmes where they’re most needed.
Awake to trauma. Aware of healing. That’s not just our ethos — it’s our commitment to community care.

Understanding Your Trauma : It’s Not Your Fault
One of the most important things we want you to know is this: your trauma responses are not flaws, they are survival strategies. As Pete Walker explains, the ways we adapt to
survive a painful or unsafe childhood often become hardwired into our adult behaviour.
Whether you tend to fight, flee, freeze, or fawn, these are learned, not chosen, and they once protected you.
Understanding this is the beginning of self-compassion.
Many of us carry an inner critic, a voice inside that tells us we’re too much, not enough, broken, or unworthy.
This voice is not our truth, t’s an echo of the messages we absorbed growing up. Walker’s work helps us identify this critic and begin to shrink it, replacing it with something long overdue: a voice of self-support and protection.
The Journey from Surviving to Thriving
Recovery is not about "fixing" yourself — because you are not broken. Instead, it's about reclaiming the parts of you that got left behind in trauma. Pete Walker outlines a multi-layered recovery process, which includes:
- Cognitive healing: Changing how we speak to ourselves
- Emotional healing: Learning to feel and express anger, sadness, and joy safely
- Somatic healing: Reconnecting with the body, which often holds trauma in tension, pain, or numbness
Relational healing: Building safer connections with others, and with ourselves
At Awake Awareness, we want to normalize that this process takes time. Trauma recovery isn’t linear — it’s a spiral. You may revisit the same themes many times, but each time you
do, you’re coming back with more insight, more strength, and more tools.

Reclaiming Power Through Self Kindness
Empowerment begins when we stop blaming ourselves for how we’ve coped. Pete Walker reminds us that the things we were forced to do to survive — dissociating, people-pleasing, hiding, or staying hyper-alert — were acts of courage.
And now, the empowering truth is: you can learn new ways to live.
You can:
- Learn to feel safe in your own body
- Practice healthy boundaries
- Reparent your inner child with compassion and consistency
- Replace toxic shame with healthy self-esteem
- Create loving, reciprocal relationships
You Are Not Alone
Perhaps the most powerful message we can offer is this: you are not alone. The feelings you’re carrying, confusion, fear, guilt, even rage, are not signs that something is wrong with you. They are signals from a nervous system trying to protect you. With the right support, education, and self-compassion, you can learn to decode those signals and respond with care instead of shame.
At Awake Awareness, we are here to walk with you on that path. Trauma recovery isn’t just possible, it’s powerful. It’s how we reconnect with our true selves, and begin to live from a place of choice, not fear.
We are passionate about creating spaces' online and in-person, here trauma is understood, healing is nurtured, and compassion leads the way.
